Port square and viaduct

Turn a traffic zone into a destination site

We accompanied the city representatives in their strategic vision of the waterfront. Their intention is to strengthen the status of the city as a seaside resort, and to reveal Pornichet through the rediscovery of its landscape, the requalification of its natural spaces and the reshaping of existing infrastructures. Today the viaduct invites walks towards the port, it becomes more intuitive for people’s rides, and various convivial multi-function and multi-generational uses are set up along the way. A pond for boats has been re-created. In agreement with local model makers, the pond, 15m in diameter, covered with mosaic, gathers children, young and older ones, in summer as well as in winter. The relationship with water is thus made possible in the far end of this grounding port. At night the project shifts identity and a subtle scenery springs up as the natural landscape disappears in the dark. To fulfil the wish of a playful structure in relation to the sea we suggested a game everyone can play and made up from the wreck of a fishing boat. Video

Square Hervo reconnects with the site history ; turning into the city’s multi-purpose, colored and lively central square while remaining a natural one, still linked to the renaturalized dune site ; it gains added value in biodiversity and can be identified.
Simplicity and durability are displayed : to show the landscape rather than the development project and offer quality of life all along the year.

Exerpt from the inauguration speech of square Hervo and the dune site, may 4th 2019 :

(…) revitalize abandoned spaces, you may tell me that’s a good idea. Yet we wanted to give them value, as well as respect and preserve them. (…) That is why with Magnum we followed the idea of a sober development that would first favor sea view, and highlight natural materials. (…) I’d like to thank : all the companies and people who worked on the 3 sites, particularly BG of Magnum, who designed the project and supervised the worksite; also a particular thought for DD, the mosaicist, and the remarkable job she did on the boat pond, (…)
